When old insulation needs to come out
Topping up on top of bad insulation just hides the problem. If yours looks like any of these, it's usually better to clear it and start again.
- Flattened or thinSquashed insulation keeps far less heat in than it should.
- Damp, stained or mouldyWet insulation stops working and can cause bigger problems.
- Mice, rats or birdsDroppings, nests and chewed insulation need to be cleared out properly.
- Old, dirty and dustyDecades of dust and debris every time you go up the loft.
If I find anything that needs a licensed specialist, such as suspected asbestos or vermiculite, I'll tell you straight and won't touch it.

- I bag up the old insulationEverything is bagged up in the loft to keep dust to a minimum.
- It's all taken awayDisposed of properly by a licensed waste carrier. Nothing left in your garden or drive.
- I clean the loft and re-insulateNew insulation laid to 270mm, the current recommended depth, with ventilation checked.
- You pay when it's doneNothing upfront, and a 10-year warranty on materials and workmanship.
